Advantages And Disadvantages Of Assembled Kitchen Cabinets
As with any other product, there are advantages and disadvantages of using assembled kitchen cabinets. These types of styles are built and already assembled by their manufacturers for easy installation at home. Therefore, you are not required to build or finish raw materials or guess at where specific hardware components should go. However, just because these cabinets seem like perfect solutions to use in your kitchen, laundry room, bathroom or garage, does not mean that they are not without a couple disadvantages as well.
Advantages
• Depending on where you live, you can often buy assembled styles that are locally made to support your community and country.
• Since they are assembled by experts, there is generally a heightened visual level of workmanship. Unless you are a professional, unfinished and raw materials are quite difficult to make into cabinets.
• You can buy them with added features such as pull out shelving, lazy Susan's and hidden trash compartments. These little extras even come in handy if you are using them as laundry cabinets.
• Most products will come with some type of warranty on the finish and hardware.
• These units are easier to install for even someone who has never handled a project of this scale. They come with directions so there is no guess work involved.
Disadvantages
• Depending on if you purchase them in store or online, they are generally more expensive than buying raw materials and making them completely from scratch.
• You may need to order and have the cabinets custom made if you have a non-traditional shaped space or have specific expectations. This would cause a delay in your project because you have to wait for them to be made and then shipped to you.
As you can see, the advantages more than outweigh the disadvantages. Making cabinets without an assembled product is extremely difficult if you don't have experience in this department. Although initially they may seem like the cheap way to go, when you have to keep buying more materials to try again, you really aren't saving yourself much money.
Some people let their pride get in the way and feel that they are cheating if they use assembled kitchen cabinets for some reason. There is nothing wrong with a little help and guidance to ensure a spectacular outcome with your project.
